About James

James is eight years old, with a smile that seems too big for his face and a laugh that echoes across the schoolyard. He is the kind of child who finds wonder in ordinary things—the shape of a cloud, the pattern of leaves, the way sunlight falls through the classroom window.

At Mnini Primary School, James is known for his drawings. Give him a pencil and a scrap of paper, and he will create entire worlds: houses with gardens, animals he has seen in picture books, airplanes flying over Mount Kilimanjaro.

James comes from a modest home where his mother raises him alone. She works long hours braiding hair at a local salon, often not returning until after dark. James has learned to be responsible, helping with chores and looking after the family's small vegetable garden.

School is James's favorite place. He loves the structure, the friends, and especially the moments when learning feels like play. His teacher has noted that he has a creative mind—he approaches problems differently than other children, often finding solutions no one else considered.

Through The Uweza Foundation's support, James has school supplies, a uniform, and access to the daily meal program. These resources remove barriers that once made education difficult, allowing him to focus on growing and learning.

When asked about his future, James says he wants to be an artist—or maybe build houses. Either way, his creativity will guide him. At eight years old, James is already dreaming big and coloring outside the lines.
